A 3D Printer Manufacturing a Skimmer Piece

Over the years there have been a number of internet forums pop up related to the theft of financial information. Some of these forums get busted by authorities, while others remain for years, helping to spread the knowledge that these low life criminals need, in order to rip you and I off. An individual going only by the handle “Gripper,” has popped up on several of these forums in which he is advertising his products and services.

“Gripper,” is selling entire card readers which can be placed at ATMs or POS terminals, tricking individuals into giving away their valuable information. The way a skimmer works is that a device is placed on an ATM reader or POS terminal, that everyday people would not recognize as being “fishy”. When an individual swipes their card, their information is sent directly to a thief, who will use that information or sell it.

This low life individual claims that he is able to mass produce his units with the help of a 3D Printing. The units have 3D printed casings, and, look totally legit. It appears that he is using a Chinese firm to produce the 3D prints.

“We have the power to mass produce these ATM skimmers with the latest technology,” Gripper wrote. “We are not buyers and builders. We have all files needed and printing facilities in China. Also we have files to mass produce MSRV [magnetic-stripe-reading] electronics.”

The following items are said to be able to be mass produced, some with 3D printers, others with traditional manufacturing methods:
